Die-cutting
A processing method that uses a die to precisely cut materials, suitable for rapid, high-volume production of complex shapes from flat materials like paper, plastic, and foam.
What is it
Die-cutting is a manufacturing process that cuts flat materials into specific shapes. It works by using a pre-made 'die' (sharp steel blades bent into the desired shape and mounted on a base) to apply pressure to the material, precisely cutting, creasing, or kiss-cutting it through a stamping or rotary process. This technique is particularly well-suited for soft or semi-rigid materials such as paper, plastic films, foam, rubber, and fabrics. Die-cutting is favored for mass production of custom-shaped products due to its high efficiency and cutting consistency.

- Labels & Stickers
- Creative Paper Products
- Custom Cards
Materials
- Cardboard
- Corrugated Board
- Foam
- Rubber
- Silicone
- PET
- PP
- PE
- Non-woven Fabric
Advantages
- High efficiency, up to hundreds of cuts per minute, suitable for large-scale production
- Clean cut edges, typical tolerance can be controlled within ±0.1mm
- Suitable for complex or irregular two-dimensional shapes, high design flexibility
- Reduces labor costs, improves production consistency and product yield
- A single die can stably produce hundreds of thousands of pieces, ensuring consistent quality
Limitations
- High initial tooling cost, suitable for large orders with MOQ 500-1000 pieces or more
- Only applicable for cutting and creasing flat materials, not for 3D forming
- Die life is limited, requiring regular replacement or maintenance, especially for hard materials
- Not suitable for some extremely thick or hard materials (e.g., metal sheets)
- Die manufacturing takes time, not ideal for very short lead time small quantity prototyping
